The Last Top Cap Piece Finishes Lincoln’s Pershing Mural
We’ve installed the last piece of the top cap on the Pershing Mural at Wyuka Park in Lincoln, Nebraska. That officially finishes the mural. For our crew at Superboy Construction, the smiles in these photos say a lot about the satisfaction of completing this monumental project.
The final piece on a 763,000-tile mural
These photos show us installing the last piece of the top cap, the finishing piece along the top of the mural. The tile installation ran from April through July 16, 2026. This final cap piece marks the completion of the mural.
The finished wall measures 50 feet by 150 feet and holds 763,000 tiles. Every tile’s original orientation was preserved during the reinstallation.
Our part in bringing the mural back together
The Pershing Mural was disassembled in 2022 after seventy years on the auditorium. Superboy Construction joined the project in 2025 to organize the tile and produce mosaic sheets, groups of tiles prepared for installation together.
Our crew then reinstalled the mural at Wyuka Park, working at a pace of 570 square feet per week during installation. Organizing those individual pieces into sheets was part of preparing a mural of this size to go back on a wall while keeping each tile in its original orientation.
That’s a lot of individual pieces to bring back together. Getting to install the last cap piece gave us a chance to stand back and enjoy seeing the work finished.
